Incoming Kindergarten students should be able to: recognize and write all alphabet letters,  recite the sounds of all of the alphabet letters, recognize and write their first and last names, recognize and write numbers 1-20, recognize shapes and colors. Please remember to review these important skills during the summer.   

Please review the papers that your child brings home each day.  Be sure to look for papers with “Homework” or “Please Sign and Return” stamped on them.  All of the children should be reviewing the High Frequency WordsConsonant-Vowel-Consonant Words, Consonant-Vowel-Consonant-Silent e Words, and Medial Long Vowel Words as they are introduced in class.  Cards have been sent home for this purpose.  Please be sure to practice each day.

The following High Frequency Words have been introduced: I, like, the, a.

The following Consonant-Vowel-Consonant Words have been introduced: Words containing medial short a (man, cat, sad, tap, bag, Sam, etc.).

The following Medial Long Vowel Words have been introduced: words containing medial long vowels have not yet been introduced.

Show and Tell will be held on full-session Fridays.  Please assist your child in selecting an item according to the assigned topic.  Please select only one item per topic.  Help your child to practice saying something about the item.  Do not send in sharp objects or violent toys for Show and Tell.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Sept. 20 – stuffed animal

Sept. 27 – favorite item of clothing

Oct. 11  – something that reminds you of fall

Oct. 18 – something that you can use in the kitchen

Oct. 25 - Halloween decoration

Nov. 8 – something that you made with your own hands

Nov. 15 - favorite book

Nov. 22 – something that you are thankful for

Dec. 13 – Christmas decoration

Jan. 3 – something that makes a noise

Jan. 17 – something that you play with or use in the snow

Jan. 25 – favorite healthy snack

Feb. 14 – Valentine decoration

Feb. 21 – something that you keep/save money in

Feb. 28 – something that you can use for measuring

Mar. 13 – something that represents your favorite hobby

Mar. 20 – exotic fruit or vegetable

Mar. 27 - Easter decoration

Apr. 24 - something that can be recycled

May 15 - something that can be used in the garden

June 5 - something that can be used at the beach
