Kindergarten KApers – December 2017

Dear KA Parents,

Can you hear the jingle bells?  Christmas is coming!  The children are very excited and I have many activities planned to help channel all of their “extra” energy.

The children will be learning about the nativity story and participating in the lighting of a classroom advent wreath.  Please try to reinforce the importance of the birth of Christ and the spirit of giving during the holiday preparations in your homes throughout the season.

The monthly author for December will be Doreen Cronin.  We will also be reading lots of yuletide tales.  Please click on Monthly Authors on the KA Homepage for information.

Watch out Rockefeller Center!  KA will have its own Tree Lighting Ceremony.  Our 8th grade buddies will be our honored guests.  We will also be visiting the Santa Shop for a little holiday shopping.  The children have been hard at work rehearsing for the Christmas Concert.  I am very proud of them.  They are truly delightful!

All of you, especially the children, are remembered in my daily prayers.  I wish you and your loved ones a magical Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year!

Blessings,  Mrs. T.  :)

Christmas Beatitudes

By

Joan Wester Anderson

Blessed is December, for Christmas is near.

Blessed are the poor of pocket, for they shall be called parents.

Blessed are they who are heavily laden, for they shall be called shoppers.

Blessed are they who weave paper garlands, produce plays, and wear confused looks, for they shall be called teachers.

Blesses are they who hunger for turkey and all the trimmings (and happily do the dishes), for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed is the sweater knit in secret, coins sent to a food bank, and dinner for a shut-in, for these shall be called love.

Blessed are we, who despite the chaos, hold the real meaning of Christmas close to our hearts.

For we shall be glad.

Recipe for a Happy New Year

Take 12 fine, full-grown months, see that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor, hate, and jealousy.

Cleanse them completely form every clinging spite; pick off all specks of pettiness.

Cut these into 30 or 31 equal parts.

Do not attempt to make up a whole batch at one time, but prepare one day at a time as follows:

Into each day put equal parts of faith, patience, courage, work, hope, fidelity, liberality, kindness, rest, prayer, and meditation.

Add a teaspoon of good spirits, a dash of fun, a pinch of folly, a sprinkling of play and a heaping cup of humor.

Pour love into the mixture and stir with vigor.

Serve with humility and good cheer!

Kindergarten KApers – July/August 2018

Dear KA Parents,

Welcome to sunshine and summer adventures!  Please be sure to include valuable educational experiences for our young learners in your summer plans.  Parents can have a positive impact on their child’s education by incorporating learning activities that are fun for the whole family.

The summer is prime time for reinforcing comprehension skills and building vocabulary.  Your local public library can be a fantastic resource.  Take advantage of their reading programs and story times.  Your old friends Curious George, Madeline, Horton, Babar, and many other characters are looking forward to spending time with you!

Travel is very often an education in itself.  New places and new experiences are the perfect time to explore different cultures and gain new interests.  Children’s natural curiosity make them intrepid explorers.  Journaling about travel is a wonderful way to encourage literacy and preserve memories.

Don’t forget the importance of everyday adventures!  A simple trip to the grocery store can be a wonderful opportunity to review math skills.  Families can also incorporate math when playing board games, doing household chores, and repairs, and measuring ingredients for recipes.

Summer is a wonderful time to promote the fine arts.  Concerts, theater performances, and museums open young minds to many possibilities.  Encourage your child’s creativity.  Art supplies, a dress up box, and simple instruments are essential tools for our budding artists.

Most importantly, enjoy your children.  The benefits of family time are immeasurable and far-reaching.  I wish all of you a happy and healthy summer!

Blessings,  Mrs. T. :)

Kindergarten KApers – October 2017

Dear KA Parents,

It’s pumpkin time again and the children are very excited about our October activities.  This month finds us looking forward to the Feast of St. Francis, Picture Day, and Halloween.

KA will be exploring the works of Tomie dePaola and Don Freeman during the month of October.  Please click on Monthly Authors on the KA Homepage for background information and suggested titles.

I am very proud of how diligently the children are working.  The children are beginning to read short sentences and copy them from the board.  Please practice with the flashcards that were sent home and continue to review the letters and their sounds.  Be sure to click on Homework on the KA Homepage for daily assignments.

Remember to check your child’s folder each day for completed work, homework assignments, test, and important messages.  Homework should be completed and returned to school on the following day.  The exception to this is when the children are assigned to read sentences and/or booklets to an adult.  These papers may be kept at home for extra practice.  They do not need to be returned to school.  Tests should always be signed by a parent and returned on the following school day.

I am so pleased about how the children are striving to be well-behaved and reverent in church.  They are very interested in the liturgy and especially enjoy singing along with the choir.  It is a beautiful thing to watch them participate and grow in their faith!

As the weather becomes cooler, the children are encouraged to wear their uniform sweaters.  No other sweaters are permitted in school.  Please be sure to label your child’s uniform sweater with a first and last name.  Many children in our school have the same first name and it becomes confusing when the sweaters are identical.

Thank you for your help and cooperation.  Have a BOO tiful Halloween!

Blessings,  Mrs. T.  :)

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love.

Where there is injury, pardon,

Where there is doubt, faith,

Where there is despair, hope,

Where there is darkness, light,

and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may

not so much seek to be consoled,

as to console;

To be understood, as to understand;

To be loved, as to love;

For it is in giving that we receive –

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Kindergarten KApers – November 2017

Dear KA Parents,

Thanksgiving time is here!  We will be stressing two important concepts in all of our special activities in KA this month.  First, we have many things to be thankful for, and second, when we all work together we can make wonderful things happen.  Please discuss these ideas with your children and help to reinforce them at home.

Corpus Christi School is sponsoring its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.  Non-perishable items may be sent to school.  Thank you for your generosity.

The monthly authors for November will be Leo Lionni and Eric Carle.  Please click on Monthly Authors on this webpage for background information and suggested titles.

KA will be joining KB for a Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast.  The menu will include turkey and all the trimmings!

Please continue to review the alphabet letters and their sounds, especially the short and long vowel sounds.  The children should be practicing at home with the high frequency word cards and the consonant-vowel-consonant word cards that were sent home on the first day of school.  As new words are introduced in class, they are listed in the Homework section of this webpage.

I wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Blessings,  Mrs. T.  :)
